For those of you not in the know, back in the 90s, The Transformers was a popular cartoon show that starred the Autobots and the Decepticons – robots who could transform themselves into seemingly ordinary vehicles like cars or big trucks. The Autobots were given the mission of protecting the world against the evil Decepticons.  In the last few years, the Transformers have been brought back into popularity, thanks to their appearance on the silver screen. The Transformers movies were absolute blockbusters, so it’s not really much of a surprise to see that they’ve now become popular costumes for Halloween.

The surprise favorite has been the Autobot named Bumblebee.  He’s a yellow robot who was set in charge of protecting the hero of the movie, Sam Witwicky.  This Bumblebee costume is an easy way for your little one to become “more than meets the eye”! It includes a fun multicolor polyester jumpsuit and the Bumblebee head gear. The print is a detailed reproduction of Bumblebee’s mechanics and even shows his “license plate”.

The costume is sized for children 12-18 months, but like most costumes, expect it to run a bit small.

Baby Pumpkin Costume for Halloween

Baby pumpkin costumes are a great outfit choice for toddlers and infants at Halloween.  Pumpkins and jack o’lanterns are a classic Halloween decoration, and there’s just something about a baby dressed as a fat little pumpkin that brings out the ‘oohs’ and ‘aahhs’ from the neighbors and grandparents.  If you’re looking for a pumpkin costume for your little one, here are a few that we recommend.

The Toddler Pumpkin Costume is a really cute and easy to wear plush costume for toddlers. The big grinning pumpkin face on its orange front is sure to elicit smiles from everyone who sees it. Features a green “leafy” collar detail and a cute hat with a stem. This is a good costume for little ones that don’t like to wear anything on their head or face, as the cap isn’t necessary for use with the costume.  The costume works well for little boys and little girls. You’ll want to make sure you have something weather appropriate to wear under the costume – an orange or green sweatsuit or leotard is recommended depending on the temperature in your neck of the woods.

The Pumpkin Princess Costume is perfectly precious for little girls. This polyester costume includes a gorgeous, frilly orange and green dress with a tutu-style skirt and the cutest little matching headband. Layers of orange tulle make the skirt stand out so cute! The green bodice has leafy details along the bottom, making your little princess look like she just danced her way out of a pumpkin patch. Again, you’ll want to make sure that you dress your little one appropriately for the weather, so tights and a leotard may be necessary depending on where you live.

The Baby Pumpkin Costume is another great unisex option for little ones.  It consists of a completely lined body suit with snap-crotch for easy diaper access – always a plus for baby costumes! The body of the costume is a smiling jack 0′lantern and the long sleeves and legs are green with adorable patches. It has an attached leaf collar, and comes complete with a hood and booties.  The booties have a non-slip bottom, but should only be used indoors to avoid trips and falls outdoors.

Be prepared this Halloween – don’t wait until the last minute to make your purchases! Local stores run out of the good stuff early, and rush shipping can get expensive if you’re shopping online.

Fun Halloween Costumes for Little Boys

There is a lot of variety in Halloween costumes for boys this year, running from the tried and true all the way through new ideas for this year. If you’re trying to decide on the best costume idea for your child, here are few of the most popular costume themes today.

1) Harry Potter

The Harry Potter movies finished up this year, but I have a feeling little boys will be dressing up as the famous wizard for many years to come.  To dress up like Harry, you’ll want to have a Gryffindor robe, Harry’s distinctive round glasses and of course, a lightning bolt scar on the forehead. Don’t forget the wizard’s wand

Younger kids will have fun dressing up as Hedwig, Harry’s owl. In fact, characters from the Harry Potter series make a great family costume idea.

2) Monsters

The classic costumes are always winners with little boys – why not go as a scary (or not so scary!) monster? There are lots to choose from, like vampires and ghosts, or Frankenstein and skeletons.  If you want something a little newer, why not try everyone’s favorite ogre, Shrek

3) Superheroes

Little boys love to dress up as superheroes, even when it’s not Halloween. That’s one reason why buying a good superhero costume is a good choice for the holiday – they can continue to use the costume for playtime long after Halloween is over. There are lots of fun choices, from the perennial Batman, Superman and Spiderman, to this years favorites, Green Lantern and Captain America.

4) Transformers

The success of the live action Transformers movies have really sparked an interest in related Halloween costumes for boys. One of the most popular Transformer costumes is Bumblebee, the autobot scout with the distinguishing yellow details. For kids looking for other Halloween options, there’s always the choice of  Optimus Prime – the brave and heroic leader of the Autobots, or the evil Megatron, head of the Decepticons.

5) Star Wars

Star Wars have become one of those things that will always be popular. For something really impressive, your boy could choose the Star Wars Darth Vader costume. There’s just something so adorable about a little boy dressed up as the villainous Vader! There is a wide variety of officially licensed Star Wars costumes, available for purchase, as well as the accessories. Don’t forget the lightsaber!

6) Pirates

If there’s one thing all little boys love to pretend to be, it’s pirates! The fun of living on the high seas, stealing treasures and causing mayhem – what’s not to love? The popularity of the Pirates of the Caribbean movies hasn’t hurt, either, in making pirate costumes a big favorite for many little boys.  Purchase a costume to dress up as Jack Sparrow or Captain Hook, or do-it-yourself for a home-spun buccaneer! It only take a few accessories to really make a great pirate costume.

These are only a few of the popular costumes for boys in 2011 – there are lots more options out there. Remember to follow the safety rules when out trick or treating so that you and your kids have a fun and safe Halloween.

Great Costume Ideas for Girls

There are so many different options when you’re choosing a Halloween costume for a little girl.  You may want your baby to be cute or scary, or you might want to dress her up in a costume that represents a favorite character from TV or the movies. Whatever costume idea you’re looking for, here are a few ideas to choose from.

1) Cute as a Bug

There’s something about little girls dressed up as bugs – there’s just not much cuter! And there are lots of different choices if you go the bug route, too.

Some of the adorable bug costumes that we’ve seen that are great for little girls are ladybugs, butterflies, bumblebees and dragonflies.  Looking for a great family costume? Dress the kids up like bugs, Mom can be a flower and Dad can dress up like a beekeeper!

Not only are these excellent choices for Halloween, the costumes are  fun to have later for dress up too.

2) Frolic like a Fairy

Sure, there’s Tinkerbell, but she’s not the only fairy in town! Little girls love the magic that fairies bring and you’ll be enchanted by just how cute your little girl looks when she’s dressed up as a fairy.  Fairy costumes come in many colors and designs and are easy to accessorize with tops or tights if the weather turns too cool.

3) Pretty as a Princesses

Little girls never seem to get tired of dressing up like their favorite princess. One of the best things about these Halloween costumes for girls is that there are so many different options, depending on whether or not you want to buy a costume or make one. The easiest thing for many is to choose her favorite Disney princess to dress up as for Halloween. There are licensed costumes easily available if she decides she wants to be Cinderella, Belle, Sleeping Beauty or any of the others. Or perhaps you prefer to be a more generic “storybook” princess – well, there are costumes available for that too!

It’s also pretty simple to create your own princess, using a long gown and crown and making something that’s completely unique! Just accessorize with lots of glitter.

 4) Carouse like a Cowgirl

I think all of us had at least one year when we were little that we dressed up like a cowgirl, especially those of us who might have been a little tomboyish. Jessie from Toy Story is a very popular option for girls at the moment, but there are lots of other great cowgirl costumes out there to choose from.  Don’t forget the boots!

5) Wicked as a Witch

Witches are  classic Halloween, and their popularity never seems to go away. Witch costumes are popular with girls of all ages and there are so many different styles to choose from. If you decide to make your own, the costume usually includes a long black dress with a pointy witch’s hat.  It isn’t too difficult to create your own!

Whatever costume you decide on for your little girl this year, please make sure that you follow the Halloween safety guidelines – have a fun and SAFE holiday!

Green Lantern Costume for Babies

Green Lantern Costume

With the recent release of the movie, Green Lantern costumes are going to be a great choice this year for Halloween.  Kids love dressing up as superheroes, but the same old, same old Superman, Batman and Spiderman are getting old. Go for something different this year! Dress your baby up in style as the Green Lantern!

Check Prices

Halloween is one of the best times of year to be a kid. You get to dress up in costumes and eat lots of candy – what could be more awesome, right? But it’s important as parents that we remember to keep our kids safe on Halloween; make sure that you know and teach your kids some safety tips for when they’re out trick or treating.

When you buy or make a costume for your child, make sure that it’s not too big or long. Oversized costumes can cause problems by getting caught on things or causing a child to trip and fall.  This Green Lantern costume is great because it has elastic at the hands and feet, to ensure a snug fit. It also includes a snap-tight inner leg so that diaper changes are easy to do.  The costume allows for a one piece jumper inside for extra warmth – although the material is thicker, like a fleece blanket, great for cool October nights!

When your child goes trick or treating, make sure a responsible older teen or adult goes with them.  Even better, try to get a few neighborhood kids to go together in a group. You’ll be easier to see as you walk along the road and groups are always safer. Your little Green Lantern can carry a flashlight and a light up Green Lantern ring for extra visibility.

Cowgirl Costumes for Kids

Cowgirl costumes are so much fun to wear – and not just for Halloween! They make a great trick or treat costume, and then pull double duty as fun dress up clothes for imaginative play the rest of the year.  If your little girl loves horses, a cowgirl costume may be just the right costume for her. I remember my first cowgirl costume – it was a little red outfit with a vest and hat that my mom bought for me to wear when we went to the rodeo. I loved that little outfit, and I bet your daughter will have fond memories of her cowgirl costume too!
