Baby Costumes for Halloween

There is a lot of variety in Halloween costumes for boys this year, running from the tried and true all the way through new ideas for this year. If you’re trying to decide on the best costume idea for your child, here are few of the most popular costume themes today.

1) Harry Potter

The Harry Potter movies finished up this year, but I have a feeling little boys will be dressing up as the famous wizard for many years to come.  To dress up like Harry, you’ll want to have a Gryffindor robe, Harry’s distinctive round glasses and of course, a lightning bolt scar on the forehead. Don’t forget the wizard’s wand! 

Younger kids will have fun dressing up as Hedwig, Harry’s owl. In fact, characters from the Harry Potter series make a great family costume idea. 

2) Monsters

The classic costumes are always winners with little boys – why not go as a scary (or not so scary!) monster? There are lots to choose from, like vampires and ghosts, or Frankenstein and skeletons.  If you want something a little newer, why not try everyone’s favorite ogre, Shrek? 

3) Superheroes

Little boys love to dress up as superheroes, even when it’s not Halloween. That’s one reason why buying a good superhero costume is a good choice for the holiday – they can continue to use the costume for playtime long after Halloween is over. There are lots of fun choices, from the perennial Batman, Superman and Spiderman, to this years favorites, Green Lantern and Captain America. 

4) Transformers 

The success of the live action Transformers movies have really sparked an interest in related Halloween costumes for boys. One of the most popular Transformer costumes is Bumblebee, the autobot scout with the distinguishing yellow details. For kids looking for other Halloween options, there’s always the choice of  Optimus Prime – the brave and heroic leader of the Autobots, or the evil Megatron, head of the Decepticons.

5) Star Wars

Star Wars have become one of those things that will always be popular. For something really impressive, your boy could choose the Star Wars Darth Vader costume. There’s just something so adorable about a little boy dressed up as the villainous Vader! There is a wide variety of officially licensed Star Wars costumes, available for purchase, as well as the accessories. Don’t forget the lightsaber!

6) Pirates

If there’s one thing all little boys love to pretend to be, it’s pirates! The fun of living on the high seas, stealing treasures and causing mayhem – what’s not to love? The popularity of the Pirates of the Caribbean movies hasn’t hurt, either, in making pirate costumes a big favorite for many little boys.  Purchase a costume to dress up as Jack Sparrow or Captain Hook, or do-it-yourself for a home-spun buccaneer! It only take a few accessories to really make a great pirate costume.

There are so many different options when you’re choosing a Halloween costume for a little girl.  You may want your baby to be cute or scary, or you might want to dress her up in a costume that represents a favorite character from TV or the movies. Whatever costume idea you’re looking for, here are a few ideas to choose from. 

1) Cute as a Bug

There’s something about little girls dressed up as bugs – there’s just not much cuter! And there are lots of different choices if you go the bug route, too.  

Some of the adorable bug costumes that we’ve seen that are great for little girls are ladybugs, butterflies, bumblebees and dragonflies.  Looking for a great family costume? Dress the kids up like bugs, Mom can be a flower and Dad can dress up like a beekeeper!

Not only are these excellent choices for Halloween, the costumes are  fun to have later for dress up too.

2) Frolic like a Fairy

Sure, there’s Tinkerbell, but she’s not the only fairy in town! Little girls love the magic that fairies bring and you’ll be enchanted by just how cute your little girl looks when she’s dressed up as a fairy.  Fairy costumes come in many colors and designs and are easy to accessorize with tops or tights if the weather turns too cool. 

3) Pretty as a Princesses

Little girls never seem to get tired of dressing up like their favorite princess. One of the best things about these Halloween costumes for girls is that there are so many different options, depending on whether or not you want to buy a costume or make one. The easiest thing for many is to choose her favorite Disney princess to dress up as for Halloween. There are licensed costumes easily available if she decides she wants to be Cinderella, Belle, Sleeping Beauty or any of the others. Or perhaps you prefer to be a more generic “storybook” princess – well, there are costumes available for that too! 

It’s also pretty simple to create your own princess, using a long gown and crown and making something that’s completely unique! Just accessorize with lots of glitter. 

 4) Carouse like a Cowgirl

I think all of us had at least one year when we were little that we dressed up like a cowgirl, especially those of us who might have been a little tomboyish. Jessie from Toy Story is a very popular option for girls at the moment, but there are lots of other great cowgirl costumes out there to choose from.  Don’t forget the boots! 

5) Wicked as a Witch

Witches are  classic Halloween, and their popularity never seems to go away. Witch costumes are popular with girls of all ages and there are so many different styles to choose from. If you decide to make your own, the costume usually includes a long black dress with a pointy witch’s hat.  It isn’t too difficult to create your own!
