Tricks For Making Baby’s First Halloween A Treat!

If this is your baby’s first Halloween, you’re probably very excited about finding just the perfect costume and showing baby off to all your family, friends and neighbors. But before you head out, remember to keep these tips in mind:

1) Pass On Confining Costume Items – Babies do not like to wear masks and most will fight and cry in discomfort if you put them in costumes that restrict their movements. Look for costumes that leave little faces uncovered and that allow baby to move about freely. Many costumes for babies are available with hats or head gear instead of masks.

2) Avoid Scary Situations for Baby – Babies are often frightened at the sight of other people’s masks or costumes. It’s important that you realize this isn’t a time to try to teach baby not to be afraid of costumes because they are simply too young to understand the difference between make-believe and reality.

3) Dress Appropriately for the Weather – When you are choosing a costume, keep the weather in mind. If you live in the northern US, you don’t want to send your baby out in a costume that leaves their arms or legs bare. Conversely, in warmer climates, you should make sure that the costume you choose is overly warm for the temperature outside. Be prepared to layer sweatshirts or pants underneath costumes if it turns cool, and it’s best to bring a jacket along, just in case.

4) Plan ahead with Friends and Family – If you plan on visiting Grandma or Uncle Bob, make sure they know ahead of time. Give them a call a couple days in advance to make arrangements, so you can be sure they’re home when you show up to take pictures with the special people in baby’s life. This will prevent disappointment, and will ensure you’ve got all the pictures you need for documenting baby’s first Halloween.

With just a little preparation and planning, your first Halloween with baby can be a wonderful memory for everyone. The photos you’ll get will last a lifetime, and you never know if baby’s first Halloween pictures might end up being passed down as family heirlooms! Whatever your Halloween plans and whichever costume you choose, by following these tips you can ensure a safe and happy first Halloween.
